Spotlight On George Soros’ Life and Involvement in Politics &Social Concerns

George Soros is originally from Hungary but he had to flee the country to the UK. He enrolled himself at the London School of Economics. In order to cater for his fees, he used to work as a waiter and railway porter. He then got started on his finance career working at a commercial bank. Later, Soros moved to New York and started off his career on Wall Street. In 1969 he founded his own hedge fund with $12 million. He later rebranded it to the Quantum Fund. Soros worked side by side with Stan Druckenmiller and in 1992, he shorted the UK pound and made a large fortune from it. This led to him earning the nickname of “the man who broke the Bank of England”.

George Soros remains a heavyweight in investing decades later. He invests via Soros Fund Management, a family office with assets worth $30 billion. Early this year, he appointed Dawn Fitzpatrick, a prominent woman on Wall Street. She was assumed the position of chief investment officer at Soros Fund Management. She will be the seventh CIO at the firm since 2000. Soros has supported a number of liberal causes and is a vicious critic of the current US President, Donald Trump.

About George Soros Return to Supporting Political Causes

According to a story published on Politico, George Soros slowly emerged as the leading sponsor of Democratic causes and politics in 2016. This was after a long hiatus from 2004 when he last gave an unprecedented $27 million to John Kerry who wanted to unseat the then US President George W. Bush. Soros donated or committed over $25 million in boosting Hillary Clinton as well as Democratic causes and candidates in the last U.S. elections. A number of his associates had predicted that he would make further donations as the November 8 election date neared.

Soros return to political giving and being more engaged politically than before was fueled by his faith in Hillary Clinton and the fear he had about Donald Trump. According to Michael Vachon, his political adviser, Soros has been making donations to the Democratic party consistently but the stakes were a bit higher in 2016 due to the threat Trump presented to things that Soros loves. This included criminal justice reform, immigration reform and religious forbearance. Learn more about George at Biography.
